Operatie Aarde

Pilot Episode of online webshow Operatie Aarde: When all the small actions of Kit, Zef and Ronja trying to save the world seem to be ineffective, the trio decides to tackle things in a much bigger way.

Kit (14), Zef (13) and Ronja (13) have a secret mission: they want to save the world! Armed with creative plans, smart ideas and a good dose of courage, they do everything they can to make their project Operation Earth a success. When their funny climate actions don't seem to have any effect, they decide to tackle things bigger - saving the world costs money. A lot of money. With their homemade collection boxes they set out, but then they stumble upon an unexpected opportunity: the empty house of their mean, rich neighbor, who is on vacation for a while.

The theme of the show is something that really resonates with me, also within my work. Sustainability is something that is central to my practice. Therefor, I found it to be even more important to show this with the costuming. Almost everything of the wardrobe has either been found second-handed, lent, upcycled or self-made. I was able to embroider the logo on the outfit of the delivery guy, as well as the denim vest of Kit.

Besides these things supporting the theme of sustainability, they also help shape the characters and the story. I had good conversations with both Naomi, the director and Kirsten, the Production Designer about things like colours and materials as well as smaller details that reflect the characters.

'Operatie Aarde' is part of a competition of the NPO Zapp, and is still in development.
