Hypercraft
A specialization in my third year of AMFI. In Hypercraft, I focussed on working with programs such as CLO3D, Blender and Substance Painter to create a digital fashion collection.
For my specialization, I decided to dive deeper into the world of 3D Hypercraft: the art of creating digital fashion. In this course, we would learn more about how to make digital patterns and garments, as well as work with animation and designing environments.
Within this specialization, we could either choose Cyber Tailoring or Immersive Fashion. I chose the latter, which focuses solely on making digital fashion. I specifically chose this direction because I wanted to: A. learn more about digital fashion and B. focus on storytelling. By choosing Immersive Fashion, I got to learn how to make environments, animations, and other interesting techniques.
We had a lot of time to work on our concepts, which I loved very much. It meant I could really dive deep into research and create my own little story. (Which you can read in my fairytale collection book!) It also really helped with writing the article, which was another thing we had to do.
After this phase, we started with designing and learning how to work with programs such as Blender and Substance Painter. At first, it was quite challenging, but after a few classes and numerous YouTube tutorials, I managed to figure them out. Since everything was still quite new, including to the teachers, we were able to experiment a lot.
Our end products were: a short movie of a minimum of 30 seconds, a line-up of twenty sketches, five actualized designs in CLO rendered in Blender, a tech pack, a process book, an article, and a collection book.
I really enjoyed working on this specialization, especially considering how much this field will still be growing in the coming years. The most interesting part of digital fashion to me is the endless possibilities: there are no restrictions to virtual garments. If you want to set your garment on fire and let the model wear it in the rain, it's possible!
