De Vliegende Hollander
A new adaptation of the famous story of the Flying Dutch man. Pirates, sea creatures, gold and a daughter looking for her lost father. Created by Max Mini theatre productions.
By accident, I became involved with this production. I stumbled upon Max Mini when I was looking for an internship. Although they were not able to provide the needed hours for my internship requirements, they did encourage me to apply for the role of 'costume designer'. So I did, and I got my first paid job as a costume designer! Max Mini is an amateur theatre group in Etten-Leur, which has produced multiple musicals.
My main job was to design the outfits for each role, and create patterns for the garments that needed to be made. A group of volunteers would make the garments, which would save me a lot of time. The rest of the garments would be thrifted, rented or found online cheap. I would now and then travel to Etten-Leur to be at rehearsals, fittings and meetings to see how everything was going.
My favourite part of the production were the outfits of 'the crew of the flying dutch men'. All of the garments we found very cheap online, and spend an afternoon dirting them down. Linde Simpson, whome I've worked with on another project, helped me with this, together with a couple of actors. Linde also made the hats for the pirate crew, which ended up looking so good!!!
